Foods for a Healthy Prostate

The prostate gland is vital in the sexual health of men. It is the organ responsible for producing the fluid that transports sperm during orgasm.  A healthy prostate leads to effective sexual function of the body. Prostate health can be achieved through proper nutrition.

Eating the right foods meant for prostate health can help to protect and prevent prostate cancer. Here are three foods to eat and minimize the risks of prostate cancer:

•    Fish and chicken – Fish and chicken are excellent foods for your prostate health. Avoid red meat such as bison, beef, pork, and lamb. Red meat contains Neu5Gc, a sugar molecule that causes inflammation in body tissues and tumors when attacked by the immune system. Prostate inflammation can develop into prostate cancer. Avoid cooking your meat on very high heat as this produces carcinogenic compounds.

•    Lycopene – Lycopene is a pigment that provides color to fruits and vegetables to allow them to absorb energy from the sun. Research has shown that dietary lycopene can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Eating foods high in lycopene can help your prostate health. These foods include purple cabbage, cooked tomatoes, papaya, watermelon, asparagus, carrots, and guava, among others.

•    Nuts–Nuts are very high in antioxidants which help to boost your immune system, reduce the aging effects, and keep the body cells healthy. Consuming nuts and healthy oils can also reduce inflammation and insulin, which then prevents the progression of prostate cancer. An ounce of nuts every day will lower the risk of prostate cancer by about 18%.

These foods will not only improve your prostate health, but they also ensure a healthy heart. You can prepare a healthy honey-Dijon salmon and asparagus using the three foods mentioned above. All you need is corn starch, melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, honey, Dijon mustard, white pepper, salmon fillets, chopped walnuts, and pound fresh asparagus.

To make your honey-Dijon salmon and asparagus, mix Worcestershire sauce, cornstarch, butter, mustard, pepper and honey in a bowl. Stir the mixture until smooth. Place your salmon fillet on foil paper and drizzle it with the honey mixture. Then sprinkle the walnuts and place the asparagus around the salmon.

Once done, fold your foil around the salmon and make sure it is tightly sealed. Grill them over medium heat until the fish can flake easily using a fork.

You can serve your honey-Dijon salmon and asparagus with wild or brown rice. This is just one among many recipes that will ensure a healthy and cancer-free prostate.
