The Use of Statin to Lower Risk of Prostate Cancer
Cancer studies have
proved that there is a relationship between statin use and lowered risk of
having prostate cancer. This is according to relatively new studies. Strains
were used over a long period in large doses for more aggressive tumors.
Statins are competitive
inhibitors used as drugs to minimize cholesterol levels in patients to prevent
the risk of having a heart attack. This drug has proven effective in this
purpose and has been studied to find new ways it could cure other diseases.
Studies that have not gone
into the clinical stage have shown that statins can slow down the rate at which
tumors grow. However, the results collected are not conclusive that cancer can
be eliminated. Some reports are not in support of this study and do not believe
statins lower the risk of developing prostate cancer.
Other studies have analyzed
the function statin plays in the chances of developing prostate cancer again.
Fortunately, the findings were not conclusive and accurate. While this is so,
other results have proved a lesser risk of biochemical recurrence once
treatment is done. In some countries such as Denmark, statin use is linked with
lowered cancer-related deathsin cancer patients.
Prostate cancer consists of a major part of almost all
common malignant tumors found among men in developed countries and comes only
second among men of Asian descent. In spite of early detection, it still proves
a threat. This is why more research on statin needs to be a priority for cancer
specialists.
The use of statins before
cancer is diagnosed shows that there is a 15 percent chance of patients surviving
than those who did not take a statin. Recently, studies have pointed out there
is a link between statin therapy and how it has worked to produce optimistic
outcomes of lowering prostate cancer.
